It's been several years so I'm not exactly sure, but when I checked now I saw that smallrye's first release was around 7th of April 2020 and this article was prepared around August, so smallrye was still fairly new. Probably either we didn't know it existed or there wasn't any documentation about it.

When we first wrote this story, some developers from Quarkus even shared this, so I'm pretty certain that smallrye wasn't developed that much at that time.
